“Yeimi” knows!

WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado entered the  third week of her training program in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, on the road to defending her title in February at a venue to be defined.

She had to rest for a few weeks after she suffered a broken nose in her most recent fight, last September in Tijuana, against Irasema Rayas. Once the swelling subsided, she was treated by specialists, who did a great job and gave the green light to fight.

Yamileth, and coach, Alfredo Caballero, started the training program with gradual workloads, and in her first sparring sessions, no nose problem, so the fight that will be the first defense of her championship will be made official in the next few days.

“Yeimi” won the world champion in November 2019, defeating Kenyan Fatuma Zarika in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, Yamileth’s homeland.

Yamileth Mercado (16-2-0, 5 ko’s), 22 years old, like all boxers was hampered  by the pandemic. She was to defend her crown during the last two weeks last March, but the fight was canceled, so she only had one bout  in 2020.

Yamileth is fully confident that 2021 will be a more active year, hence her company, 2M Promotions, will schedule the blockbuster in February, in such a way that three more fights can be achieved  during the year, for the Chihuahua boxer living in Hermosillo, Sonora for two years.
