Henrikh Mkhitaryan shines spotlight on Armenia

Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who formerly captained the Armenian national football team, has in a fresh interview with the club spoken about his homeland, his career and the honor to play for Armenia.

‌When asked what country he considers home, Mkhitaryan drew the map of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) and showed the capital Yerevan with a dot.

‌”Yerevan is a wonderful city, especially in summer when it’s hot; there are many people on the street, having a good time. I want to return to Yerevan when I don’t play football anymore; but now I’m here, in Milan,” said Mkhitaryan.

‌”I started playing football in France, where my father played. He was a striker, the source of my inspiration to start playing football. I started training more seriously when I returned to Armenia.

‌Mkhitaryan noted that it was an honor for him to represent the Armenian national team.

“I gave my best to the national team, striving to win a spot at the European championship or the World Cup. We didn’t reach those goals, but I gave the team everything I could,” he said.

‌“I have ended my international duty, which I’m sad about, but it’s my decision. Everyone loves football in Armenia. Not many people follow the matches of the national league, but the stadium is full for the matches of the national team.” Source
